White Water Rafting!!!

For those who craves for outdoor activities, this might be what ur seeking for.!! White Water Rafting!!!!.. is a challenging recreational outdoor activity using an inflatable boat or so called raft, to navigate through rapids within the rivers... This is usually done on white water or different degrees of rough water, in order to thrill and excite the raft passengers...

Btw, my parents own a rafting company called Pierose Swiftwater Sdn. Bhd... My parents started their own company on 2006... But my dad have been doing rafting since 1996 with other company... He also have been doing outdoor activities long before he started rafting... jungle tracking, rock climbing, kayaking, camping, and loads of other stuffs... :P... well, i've been exposed to all these kind of activities since young and i'm kinda used to doing these activities... but not as hardcore as my dad... :)... Usually they organize the rafting trip for the clients at Sungai Selangor at Kuala Kubu Bharu, Selangor... But they do organize at other rivers as well... depends on the clients request... If you're interested on higher level rafting experience, i might want to go for a 3 days 2 night trip which is at Sungai Singor, Perak... there are some other rivers which i cant recall at the momment... :)

Cant swim??? Never been for any outdoor activities?? Not a problem... there's a lot of people who cant swim that went for rafting... i've been rafting a lot of times and i've seen these people... knowing how to swim actually gives you only a bit of advantage only... which is you're used to water more than the one's who doesn't... anyway... u wont be swimming in those rapids... even the best swimmer in the world cant swim in those kinda rapids... and btw rafting is not about swimming... u'll be in the raft most of the time while going through the rapids.... and one more thing, everyone will be equipped with PFD (Pesonal Floatation Device) or most might call it Life Jacket... helmet and paddle will also be provided.... and you must wear the PFD and helmet throughout the whole trip... u can only remove them only when the guides says that u can... its all for safety reasons u need all those.. :P

My dad briefing the clients... :P

Ok... when u reach to the site... everyone will be given a briefing on safety and basic things u need to know about rafting... this is so that you will be more prepared for the trip... You will be given the safety gears at this time, PFD, Helmet and paddle... :P sometimes if there's extra time to spare, there will be some games held before the trip... this is for the clients or passengers to get use to each other a litle bit more... and once the briefings and the game done, everyone will be divided into rafts which consist of maximum 6 passengers depends on the size of the pax... if the river level is low, the maximum amount of passengers in a raft is 5 or 4 persons... this doesn't include the two guides which will maneuver the raft along the rapids...

There are different level of difficulties for the rapids throughout the whole river... starting from grade 1 to grade 6... the maximum grade you'll find in Malaysia is only grade 5 and there's only one that i know of, which is in Sungai Singor in Perak... the rest would only be grade 3 or grade 4 max....

Grade 1: Very small rough areas, might require slight maneuvering. (Skill Level: Very Basic)
Grade 2: Some rough water, maybe some rocks, might require some maneuvering.(Skill Level: Basic Paddling Skill)
Grade 3: Whitewater, small waves, maybe a small drop, but no considerable danger. May require significant maneuvering.(Skill Level: Experienced paddling skills)
Grade 4: Whitewater, medium waves, maybe rocks, maybe a considerable drop, sharp maneuvers may be needed. (Skill Level: Whitewater Experience)
Grade 5: Whitewater, large waves, large volume, possibility of large rocks and hazards, possibility of a large drop, requires precise maneuvering (Skill Level: Advanced Whitewater Experience)
Grade 6: Class 6 rapids are considered to be so dangerous as to be effectively unnavigable on a reliably safe basis. Rafters can expect to encounter substantial whitewater, huge waves, huge rocks and hazards, and/or substantial drops that will impart severe impacts beyond the structural capacities and impact ratings of almost all rafting equipment. Traversing a Class 6 rapid has a dramatically increased likelihood of ending in serious injury or death compared to lesser classes. (Skill Level: Successful completion of a Class 6 rapid without serious injury or death is widely considered to be a matter of great luck or extreme skill)

There will be Guides standing by at the river bank to rescue the ones that falls off...

Like so many outdoor activities, people tend to forget that whitewater rafting comes with an element of risk due to the elements of nature... Plus, some might say that because of the inherent thrill seeking element of whitewater rafting, the sport includes a greater-than-average risk factor... This is why safety is always the main concern for these kind of sports... these are safety gears for the guides to use during the trip in case of any emergencies... and everyone have been briefed about the safety tips before the trip... :)

Once done with rafting, clients will be having lunch which is provided... which my mom is the one who cooked and prepare the foods... :P... but before having lunch, they'll shower and change their clothing 1st.... but some people straight away have their lunch before showering.... too tired and hungry i think... :P this is the time when everyone gather and share their experience about the rafting trip they have just been through with each other or anything which they would like to share with each other....
